How a yard comes together

From first sketch to a yard you use.

  • 1Reset the groundWe grade for drainage first, because water that has nowhere to go wrecks everything built on top of it.
  • 2Build the bonesPatio, walls and drip lines go in before a single plant, so nothing gets trampled later.
  • 3Plant and light itDesert plants chosen for your sun, with soft lighting so the yard works after dark too.
Plant picker

Water-smart desert plants that earn their spot.

Pick what matters for your yard and we will narrow the list. Choose more than one filter and plants must match all of them.

Where we work

Local to the whole East Valley and beyond.

Our crews start every morning in Scottsdale, so most of the Valley is a short drive. Pick your city.

Neighbors say

Yards people actually use.

We swapped our front lawn for a desert garden with drip, and our summer water bill dropped by almost a third. The crew showed up when they said and left the driveway cleaner than they found it.

PPriyaDC Ranch, Scottsdale

Our backyard was basically a dirt rectangle. Greenway drew a plan around our old orange tree, added a paver patio and a fire pit, and we have used it every weekend since.

TTomArcadia, Phoenix

The slope scared off three other companies. Greenway planned the drainage first, then planted. Two monsoon seasons later, nothing has washed out and the ocotillos are thriving.

JJanelleFountain Hills

The lighting is what guests mention. Soft and warm, nothing that looks like an airport runway. We eat outside until nearly November now.

MMarcusGainey Ranch, Scottsdale

Straight answers about artificial turf, including where it gets hot. They put it in the dog run and kept the shady side planted. Honest advice, and it shows in the result.

EElenaTempe

I asked for low maintenance and they took it seriously. Plants picked for our lot, a controller that adjusts itself, and a seasonal checklist taped inside the garage door.

Good questions

Before you call, you might wonder.

It depends on the size of your yard and what you choose. A refresh with new plants and drip might run a few thousand dollars, while a full backyard with patio, pergola and lighting runs much higher. The designer above shows typical ranges, and after your free walk you get a fixed price in writing.

Design takes about a week. Planting and irrigation projects are often done in a few days, a patio and pergola in two to three weeks, and a full backyard with a pool in a couple of months. We give you a calendar before we start and tell you early if weather moves it.

Yes. We prepare the drawings, plant lists and photos that most review boards ask for, and we can answer their questions directly. Approval timelines vary by community, so we build that wait into the schedule.

In direct summer sun, yes, the surface gets warm. We use cooler infill, plan shade where people and pets will be, and often suggest turf for small zones while desert plants and pavers cover the rest. We will tell you honestly where turf is a good fit and where it is not.

Several Valley cities and utilities have offered turf and irrigation rebate programs. Rules change, so during your walk we check what is current for your address and point you to the paperwork. We design with water in mind either way.

We do, with earlier start times and plenty of water for the crew. Hardscape, lighting and irrigation go on all year. For most plants we aim for fall and spring, when roots settle in fastest, and we will tell you if a summer planting is worth the risk.
